Jessica Hull (athletics) is seeking Australia’s first women’s 5000m title at the Commonwealth Games since Kate Richardson in Kuala Lumpur in 1998. Jessica stamped herself as Australia’s top middle-distance runner in 2020, becoming the first Australian woman to hold the 1500m (4:00.42), 3000m and 5000m (14:43.80) national records at the same time. The US-based runner grew up in Albion Park, near Wollongong in NSW and was initially coached by her father, Simon Hull, who was once a national-level middle-distance runner. She took up a scholarship at the University of Oregon in 2015 where she completed a human physiology major in 2019. After graduating, she joined the Nike team in Eugene under coach Pete Julian alongside some of the biggest international names in distance running. Jessica made her senior international debut at the Doha 2019 World Championships where her 1500m semi-final time (4:01.80) was a then PB but fell one place short of the final. She went on to finish 11th at her Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020. Jessica is engaged to Daniel Joliffe and the pair will marry in 2022.
